Welcome to Hammonasset State Park Beach
My name is Kalil Kourouma, Sophomore at Nichols College. I would like to welcome you to my this site built for my "Physical World" project about a beach. Because living about 35 minutes from the Hammonasset State Park Beach, i have decided to dedicate this site for my project to let others know about the importance of this park in the State of connecticut that attracts millions of birds and visitors each year to enhance and increase the economy of the State of Connecticut. |
At almost a thousand acres, this is one of Connecticut's finest shoreline birding spots. With a long beach on Long Island Sound, marsh habitat on the Sound and the Hammonasset River, rocks and sand, grasses and hardwoods, there is enough diversity to attract just about anything.

This winter for the second straight year has been a good year for Rough-legged Hawks in Connecticut. In most years these hawks stay further north of us and we see only an occasional bird, but since New Years Day they have been spotted regularly in a number of places. |

With two miles of beach stretching along the Long Island Sound, Hammonasset is the largest beach in Connecticut. The park’s 923 acres include areas for fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. Birdwatchers will find migrating shorebirds, waders and seabirds, as well as wintering waterfowl and owls here. Nature programs are scheduled at the park during much of the year. There is a fee to enter the park during the summer season.
